Enterprise Server and access controlWith the CatDV Enterprise Server and Client application you can control access to clips and catalogs based on which user is logged on. Each catalog has an owner and a group which determines who can read or write to the catalog. Initially it is assigned to the default group of the user who created it, but this can easily be changed. Typically you might set up different groups to correspond to different teams or departments within the organisation, or to different projects being worked on. By default, only members of a group can see the clips or catalogs in that group, and all the members of the group can modify and delete any catalog belonging to that group, but these permissions can be configured in the User Admin tab of the server control panel. The user, groups and permissions model is very flexible. Different members of the group can have different levels of access, and users can be members of more than one group, with different access in each group. Group administrators can add users to the group or edit their permissions, while system administrators have full access to create or delete groups and edit anyone's permission. The server control panel also displays statistics about the size of the database, the status of the server, and a list of currently connected users. It also displays an audit log file on the server that keeps track of events such as when clips were added, modified or deleted from the server, when the server was started and shut down, or any errors that occurred. |
