Having lived in a small cottage in Snitterfield for several years,
earlier this year my fiancee and I bought a bigger house together
in the same village. The old one was just too crowded for two of
us plus two cats, so we were glad to find the bigger, but rather prophetically named, "Brookland" for sale just a few houses down the street.
We'd only just settled in, however, when the worst floods of the century to hit the Midlands happened, and our entire ground floor was under 22 inches of water! Ok, so the brook runs straight under our living room, but we'd have preferred it if it stayed under the living room, not in it. The dining room especially was a complete disaster because it was full of papers and photos we hadn't yet unpacked!
It's not really any consolation but it wasn't just us who got flooded. The whole of The Green in Snitterfield was under water, and that was just one of many towns and villages in the area to suffer.
Shouldn't happen again this century though...
