System Requirements

The following requirements are intended as a guide only and other configurations may also work. In case of doubt please download and test the free evaluation with your system.

CatDV 10.0

For the CatDV 10.0 client application you need the following:

  • Intel Macintosh running Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7 or 10.8, or Windows PC running Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7
  • 2048 MB of memory or more (for large catalogs with many thumbnails more memory may be needed)
  • QuickTime 7.7 (including QuickTime for Java)
  • Java 1.6 or 1.7 (32-bit)

Under Mac OS X all the required software is available as part of the standard operating system installation, though you may be prompted to download Java the first time you try to launch CatDV. You can use Software Update to automatically check that all your system software is up to date. (CatDV 10 may work under OS X 10.5.8 but this is not officially supported.)

For Windows you need to install QuickTime and Java. QuickTime is available as a free download from Apple. Java is available as a free download from Sun Microsystems.

Live Capture Plus

To run Live Capture Plus you will need:

  • Macintosh (Power PC or Intel) with built-in FireWire, running Mac OS X 10.4, 10.5 or 10.6 (later versions may also work)
  • 1024 MB of memory or more
  • DV camcorder or deck connected via IEEE 1394 interface (also known as iLink or FireWire)

Alternatively, to use Live Capture Plus 2.2 under Windows you need:

  • Windows PC running Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7
  • QuickTime 7.0 or later
  • Java 1.5 or later (32-bit)
  • OHCI-compatible IEEE 1394 interface (also known as iLink or FireWire)

Live Capture Plus can be used on its own without CatDV but some features are designed specifically for use with CatDV.

CatDV Workgroup or Enterprise Server

The CatDV Server is compatible with most common server machine configurations. A typical installation will require:

  • Linux, Mac OS X, Unix, or Windows operating systems (including XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Windows Server)
  • 2048 MB or more memory
  • Java J2SE (or J2EE) 1.6 or later
  • MySQL 5.0 or later database software (Community Edition)
  • Alternatively, Oracle 10g may be used instead of MySQL (Windows only)
  • Other SQL databases may be supported also (please enquire for details)

We can provide demo licenses to allow you to perform test installations on your hardware and fully evaluate the software prior to making a purchase.

CatDV Server Options

The Live HTML Publisher option requires Apache Tomcat 5 or later in addition to a copy of CatDV Workgroup or Enterprise Server.

Java, MySQL (or other SQL database) and Apache Tomcat are commonly pre-installed or available as free downloads for most platforms - full details are provided in the CatDV Server installation notes.

The wireless barcode scanner option requires CatDV Enterprise client application and a Mac OS X or Windows XP machine with Bluetooth 1.1 interface.

The CatDV Worker Node has similar requirements to those needed to run the CatDV client application.
