P4 Archive is a product of PreSTORE P4, the professional data management suite from Archiware, which enables you to quickly and easily create and maintain an archive of your valuable media content with minimal administration. P4 runs on Mac/Win/Linux and Solaris and accesses disk and tape storage of all kinds. Combination with the other products P4 Synchronize, P4 Backup and P4 Backup2Go are easy to achieve for a workflow solution.
Archiving on LTO tape is the most economic, durable and professional solution for media data. An additional benefit is the possibility to off-site media for increased security. Automatic cloning of archive tapes helps to achieve that easily. Furthermore an archive pays off and saves money after 1-2 years compared to continually expanding RAID storage. As a consequence combining CatDV with a tape-based archive is a natural choice. All assets and productions can remain searchable, re-usable and be easily restored.
In essence a set of scrips connects the two solutions with the following steps being performed automatically in the background: Initiate archive command, Hand over asset path, Trigger P4 Archive, Export Metadata, Integrate preview and metadata into archive, Set status to archived in CatDV, Delete file from online storage.
Browsing and searching for files takes place within CatDV that holds all necessary metadata and proxies. After that a command is issued and the file is read from the archive and put back to the online storage. From there CatDV takes over and all editing options are available.

With the Cache-A Prime-Cache or Pro-Cache archive appliance you can easily archive entire media projects to LTO-4 tape.
Simply mount the Cache-A device as you would any other networked attached storage volume and copy files to it, then let the device itself manage the archiving of those files to LTO tape cartridges. At the same time, use CatDV to provide a database of all your archived video clips (complete with low-res proxies, log notes, and other metadata, including which tape they are on) so you can decide which clips you need to restore.
