OMFI Support

With OMFI file support, CatDV 7.0 Professional Edition users can directly import and catalog OMF Interchange media files. OMFI is a complex file format that can contain metadata and composition information as well as media, and CatDV Pro is one of very few third party applications that support these files.

Using CatDV Pro with the OMF import option you can import a folder containing OMF files and catalog these files and their metadata in the same way as you do other files:

• Metadata such as clip and project name are indexed
• OMF1 and OMF2 files are supported
• Composition information is extracted and made available as a sequence (which can be exported as an EDL or Final Cut XML file)
• Native OMF support from CatDV - no other third party software is required.

If you use Avid XPress DV then you get access to the same features within CatDV Pro that you are used to when processing DV files in other formats:

• DV metadata such as record date and exposure are displayed
• thumbnails are created
• you can even preview the Avid DV media without needing to install XPress DV on the machine (video only, audio is not currently supported)
• new in CatDV Pro 5.1, OMF files with JPEG compressed video can also be played.

Because OMF files often have obscure computer-generated names, cataloging them within CatDV Pro gives you a convenient way to get an overview of their contents and treat all your media files in a consistent way, helping you to avoid re-keying log notes or having to export files to get them into a different system.
