Sales and Support FAQQuestionShould I use the Oracle or MySQL version of Workgroup Server?AnswerThe functionality provided by the CatDV Workgroup Server is the same whether you are using MySQL or Oracle, so in most cases we'd recommend using MySQL, simply because its cheaper as you don't need to purchase an Oracle database license. However, we would still encourage you to purchase a MySQL support contract, which is very reasonably priced, to support the MySQL open source development efforts. For most users, the main advantage of using the Oracle version is if they use Oracle as their enterprice database or if they already have experience in administering it. Also, a standard Oracle 10g installation includes both Java and a J2EE application server so you don't need to install any additional server to use the Workgroup Server and Live HTML Publisher if you have Oracle. Currently Oracle is only supported under Windows. 24/6/2005 |
