Question

We have captured our media in Final Cut Pro, an entire tape at a time. Then we imported the clip into CatDV Pro, which is where we would like to do our subclipping and logging. When we export a batch capture list and drop into FCP, it is not reconnecting.

Answer

Unfortunately Final Cut Pro will not automatically attach subclips to a file, not will it read the source media path for clips from a batch list, so you need to split the media into one file per clip and attach the media yourself in FCP. You can do this quite easily though.

If you export the clips from CatDV using the 'Exact clip names' option then the files will have the same file name as the clip name in the batch list and you can attach all the clips easily in FCP in one operation.

The other approach is to scan a tape in CatDV, capturing preview versions to log from, and then exporting a batch list of clips you're going to use and batch capturing those in FCP.
