There is a known memory leak bug in QuickTime 4.1.2 that can cause your system to slow down noticeably and then freeze or bomb if you play lots of movies and create secondary clips within the clip details dialog. If you experience this problem you should upgrade to QuickTime 5. Alternatively, you can work around the problem by increasing the CatDV memory allocation using the Finder's Get Info command. (QuickTime and Java both use temporary system memory so the application allocation for CatDV is normally quite low.)
