Question

Can I sort/filter on time of day? I'm trying to find some video I took at a party but I can't remember the date, so I want to show all clips between midnight and 4am (on any day).

Answer

There is no time of day column in CatDV, just the Record Date (which includes both date and time). If you have the professional edition however you can work around this as follows:

1. Switch to 24-hour time display in Preferences.

2. Create a new user-defined field called Time Of Day.

3. Use the Bulk Edit command to copy the Record Date field to Time Of Day.

4. Use the Search & Replace command and apply the following regular expression to the Time Of Day field: search for .*\s(\d+:\d\d:\d\d) and replace with \1

5. Create a new custom view that includes the Time Of Day field and sort on this column.
