Sales and Support FAQ
QuestionI don't use QuickTime or .MOV files. Will CatDV open .AVIs?
AnswerNo problem! Both QuickTime and Video for Windows/DirectX are "wrapper" formats that deal with basic timing issues and use a wide variety of plug-in "codecs" to support different video formats. In the case of DV movies, essentially the raw data from the camcorder is stored and there is very little practical difference between .MOV, .AVI and .DV file formats. The QuickTime libraries, which CatDV uses, are able to open any of these formats transparently, and there is no reason why you shouldn't continue to use whatever capture software and file format you are used to and still get the benefit of using CatDV.
