If CatDV finds a preferences file written by a later version of the application it will refuse to overwrite it to avoid losing newer settings (such as filter definitions) that it might not know about. To go back to an older version of CatDV you should therefore delete the preferences file (~/Library/CatDV Preferences under OS X, CatDV Preferences in the Preferences folder inside the System Folder under OS 9, and catdv.prefs in your home directory under Windows) before relaunching CatDV.
