Question

I'm using CatDV 5.1 and get "Software Error : Failed to complete operation because an error occurred (MediaView - quicktime/jdirect/QuickTimeLib)" when I try to play a movie.

Answer

Starting with QuickTime 7.2, Apple removed some of the classes that older versions of CatDV (and Live Capture Plus 1.0) were using. Certain operations (such as playing full screen movies or importing certain types of file) will fail. You either need to upgrade to the latest version of CatDV or downgrade your QuickTime installation (which you can do using a tool such as Pacifist on the Mac, or by uninstalling and reinstalling an older version of QuickTime under Windows).
