Question

CatDV (or Live Capture Plus) fail to launch. The dock icon bounces a few times but nothing happens.

Answer

There are various reasons why a Java-based application such as CatDV or Live Capture Plus may fail to launch under Mac OS X. Some specific situations we are aware of include:

The parent folder (or any other containing folder) containing the application has a '/' in the name, for example "Media Tools/Utilities".
You are running Live Capture Plus 1.0, or have configured CatDV to use a different Java version, after installing Apple's Security Update 2006-008.

Both of these situations are due to issues with Apple's Java implementation, but both have fairly straightforward workarounds.

If you encounter this situation (application simply fails to launch) please check the console.log file (launch the Application > Utilities > Console.app application to view the log) as this will usually have details of the error and contact support@squarebox.co.uk for further information.
