Question

I started off creating one catalog containing all my tapes. I now want to split that up so that I have a separate catalog for each tape. Dragging the clips to a new catalog doesn't work.

Answer

Unfortunately, dragging and dropping clips from one catalog to another isn't currently supported. However, you can copy and paste clips to a new catalog. Open the original catalog and group by Tape. For each tape in turn, select all the clips on that tape and do Edit > Copy, then create a new catalog and do Edit > Paste. (You could also do Edit > Cut to remove the clips from the old catalog, but you might prefer to keep the original catalog as a backup and copy the clips instead.)

When creating a catalog for each tape, consider using Edit > Catalog Details to enter a brief description or keywords describing the tape as a whole. This description is displayed in the Browse Catalogs window and will help you identify the correct tape catalog to load.

You can of course copy and paste or move clips between catalogs for other purposes to help you organise your catalogs as you choose, it's not necessary to organise them by tape as described here.
